How to attend a retreat with Sayadaw U Tejaniya

To attend a retreat with Sayadaw U Tejaniya, you generally have two paths: traveling to his home monastery in Myanmar or attending a Western retreat led by his senior students. Because Sayadaw is traveling less frequently, direct contact requires a bit of patience and preparation.

1. Attending at Shwe Oo Min (Myanmar)

The most direct way to practice with Sayadaw is to travel to the Shwe Oo Min Dhammasukha Tawya in Yangon. He teaches there year-round, though the "meditation season" is most active during the winter months.

  • How to Contact: * Email: The primary email for international yogis is shweoomindsk@myanmar.com.mm. Note that they only check this a few times a week and strictly for important travel/registration matters.
    • Phone: You can reach the monastery at +95 1 636402 or +95 1 638 170.1
  • Requirements for Foreigners:
    • Sponsorship Letter: You must email the monastery to request a sponsorship letter, which you then take to a Myanmar embassy to apply for a Meditation Visa.
    • Duration: Foreigners are usually encouraged to stay for at least two weeks, though many stay for months.

2. Retreats Led by Senior Students (2026 Schedule)

Since Sayadaw rarely travels abroad now, his senior students (who teach his exact style of "Awareness and Wisdom") lead several retreats in North America and Europe. These are the best options if you cannot travel to Myanmar:

3. Staying Connected via Online Groups

Sayadaw often joins these groups for live Zoom Q&As, which is currently the easiest way to "speak" with him:2

  • Wisdom Streams: A foundation dedicated to his North American students that organizes online events. wisdomstreams.org
  • Shwe Oo Min Facebook Group: This is the most active community for real-time updates from the monastery and announcements regarding hybrid/Zoom retreats.

Key Resources for Registration

  • Tejaniyasayadaw.space: For downloading the "Information for Yogis" PDF which outlines the monastery's rules.
  • Dharma Seed: To check the latest "batch" uploads of his Q&A sessions.
